GÉFI – Győr-Sopron County Mechanical and Precision Engineering Company

It was formed in 1949 from the Tolnay balance factory in connection with nationalization. It was managed by the Győr City Council and operated as a balance factory. The initial staff was 3 people. In addition to balance repair, other repairs were also carried out, with 35 people in 1950. Between

1950 and 1952 , although to a small extent, finished goods production began, the subject of which was the production of foundry mold cabinets and ship parts for the Vác shipyard. In

1953 , the company's independence ceased, it was attached to the Bp Balance Factory (former Samber company), and operated as a Győr department. In

1954 , it separated from the BP factory and merged with the Győr Fine Mechanics Company, new name: Győr Balance Repair Fine Mechanics Company –, director Károly Farkas.

At that time, the number of employees was already 75. In

1965 , the Győr company was merged with the Csorna, Kapuvár and Sopron machine industry council companies, from then on it became “Győr Sopron County….” From then on, the production of finished goods developed rapidly, as did the service. From 1967, the Sopron unit was separated.

1970. A service house was built, and is now partially in operation in the Kun Béla housing estate in Győr, next to the recently opened medical clinic and pharmacy. Its owner is the Győr-Sopron County Mechanical and Fine Mechanics Company.

In its 108 square meter service department, it repairs washing machines, refrigerators, sewing machines, and
electric boilers on site. Later, other small household appliances, such as vacuum cleaners, coffee grinders, hair dryers, electric razors, and DIY machines, were also repaired.

The construction of GÉFI's new service center cost 6.5 million forints.

1979. The population knows the Győr-Sopron County Mechanical and Fine-Mechanical Company only for its services, although its scope of activity extends far beyond the county and even the country's borders. The three hundred and forty-member collective has gained a reputation in the industry in recent years primarily in the field of machine construction. While they previously appeared on the market with an extremely wide range of products, by this time they were essentially coping with the increasingly fierce competition with a "clean profile".

By continuously modernizing their bending machines, they achieved that during the negotiation negotiations between the CEEC countries, GÉFI's products were listed together with those of large companies, and the company's representatives were equal partners in the negotiations.

1982. The company's total annual sales revenue: 130 million forints. A smaller part of this amount – 20 million forints – comes from residential services, and the rest from the production of finished goods.

1988. Several hundred motorcycles, bicycles, and small agricultural machinery are repaired every month in the Győr service center of the Géfi Consumer Service Subsidiary.

In 1992, GÉFI Kft., which was established with full legal succession from the Győr-Sopron County Machinery Company, was managed by the State Property Agency and the right to purchase its business share was won by WORTMANN INDUSTRIE ANLAGEN GmbH.
